How to Fill a New Swimming Pool in Dubai (Step by Step)

By WaterLink Team · Published · Updated

How do I fill a new swimming pool in Dubai?

Confirm the pool is finished and clean, work out the volume (length × width × average depth), and book enough 2,500-gallon sweet water tanker loads — about 6 for a 50 m³ pool. Arrange gate access, clear the hose route, fill in one day, then have your pool company balance pH and chlorine straight after.

Step 1: Check the pool is ready

Ask your pool contractor to confirm:

  • Construction and finishes are complete — tiles, grout and plaster have cured for the time they specify. Filling too early can damage some finishes.
  • The shell is clean. Dust, grout residue and debris should be removed first; it’s much harder once the pool is full.
  • Drains are closed and equipment is ready — pumps, filters and the balance tank (if you have one).

Your contractor’s instructions come first. They know the materials they used.

Step 2: Work out how much water you need

Multiply length × width × average depth (in metres) to get cubic metres. Divide by 9.46 — one 2,500 US-gallon load — and round up.

PoolVolumeLoads
8 × 3.5 m, 1.1 m avg≈ 31 m³4
10 × 4 m, 1.25 m avg50 m³6
12 × 5 m, 1.35 m avg≈ 81 m³9

Add the balance tank if your pool has one. Or use the pool calculator. Full explanation: how many tankers to fill a pool.

Step 3: Choose the day and time

  • Fill in one day so your pool company can balance the water straight away.
  • Start early. Truck restrictions on some major roads (for example Sheikh Zayed Road, 6 am–10 pm, from 1 October 2026) and daytime traffic can slow later loads. We run 24/7, so early-morning starts are possible.
  • Book your pool company for the end of the fill.

Step 4: Sort out access

  • Gate pass: most gated communities need the tanker registered with security, and some need a contractor pass arranged in advance. See gated community access.
  • Parking: the truck needs to park as close to the pool as it safely can.
  • Hose route: measure the distance from the road to the pool and tell us, so we bring enough hose. Open side gates and move cars.

Step 5: Book the tanker

Send us on WhatsApp: your location pin, pool size (or volume), the date, and the distance from road to pool. We confirm the number of loads, the schedule and today’s price — see the table above. We deliver sweet water only for pools, never salt or recycled water.

Step 6: On the day

  • Someone should be home to open gates and watch the first load go in.
  • Check the hose isn’t resting on anything sharp or hot.
  • Keep children and pets away from the truck and the hose.

Step 7: Balance the water

Fresh tanker water isn’t pool-ready until it’s treated. Your pool company should test and adjust:

  • pH — pool guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends keeping pH between 7.2 and 7.8.
  • Free chlorine — the CDC recommends at least 1 ppm in pools.
  • Total alkalinity and calcium hardness — to protect surfaces and equipment.

Then run the filtration system as your pool company advises before swimming.

Step 8: Plan for top-ups

Dubai’s heat evaporates pool water quickly in summer. Plan small top-ups rather than letting the level drop too far — see pool water evaporation in Dubai. To book the fill or a top-up, see our swimming pool water tanker service.
