No Water in Your Villa? What to Do in the Next Hour
By WaterLink Team · Published · Updated
What should I do if there's no water in my villa in Dubai?
First call DEWA on 991 or check the DEWA app for an outage. Then check your underground tank: if it's empty, mains supply is off or too weak and a water tanker will fix it — WaterLink delivers 24/7, typically in about 1 hour. If the tank is full but taps are dry, the pump or float valve has failed and you need a plumber.

Most Dubai villas work like this:
- DEWA mains feed an underground (ground) tank through a float valve that shuts off when the tank is full.
- A booster or transfer pump lifts water from the underground tank to a rooftop tank (or pushes it straight into the house).
- The rooftop tank feeds the taps by gravity.
When the taps run dry, one of these three links has failed. Finding which one tells you whether you need DEWA, a tanker, or a plumber.
Minute 0–10: Is it DEWA?
- Call DEWA on 991 or check the DEWA app/website for outages in your area.
- Ask your neighbours or community group whether they have water.
- If there’s a planned or emergency interruption, ask DEWA how long it’s expected to last.
If the outage will last longer than your stored water, you’ll need a tanker. Skip to “Ordering a tanker” below.
Minute 10–20: Check the underground tank
Open the underground tank’s access cover (carefully — keep children away) and look at the water level.
- Tank empty or very low → mains water isn’t coming in. Either DEWA supply is off, or pressure is too low to fill the tank. A tanker solves this immediately.
- Tank full or mostly full → water is available, so the problem is further along. Go to the next step.
Minute 20–30: Check the pump and rooftop tank
- Is the pump running? Listen for it. If it hums but no water moves, it may have lost prime or failed. If it’s silent, check the circuit breaker.
- Is the rooftop tank empty? If the underground tank is full but the rooftop tank is empty, the pump or its float switch has failed.
- Is the float valve stuck? A stuck float valve in the rooftop tank can stop it refilling.
These are plumbing problems. Call your maintenance company or a plumber — a tanker won’t help if water can’t get from the tank to your taps.
Important: if the underground tank is empty, switch off the pump. Running a pump dry can damage it.
Ordering a tanker
If your tank is empty and mains water won’t be back soon:
- Estimate what you need. Most families only need enough to get through the outage. Even 200–500 gallons buys time; a full 2,500-gallon load refills most villa tanks.
- Send your location pin on WhatsApp with the quantity and your tank type.
- Tell security a water tanker is coming if you live in a gated community.
- Clear the route to your tank inlet.
WaterLink delivers 24/7 across Dubai, typically arriving in about 1 hour. We confirm today’s price before dispatch — see prices.
After the water is back
- Turn the pump back on once the underground tank has water.
- Run the taps for a minute to clear air from the pipes. Some cloudiness from air bubbles is normal and clears quickly.
- Check for leaks if the outage was caused by a pipe burst on your side.
- Consider a storage buffer. If outages keep happening, a bigger tank or a scheduled supply can help.
Quick checklist
| Symptom | Likely cause | Who to call |
|---|---|---|
| Whole area has no water | DEWA outage | DEWA 991; tanker if it lasts |
| Underground tank empty, neighbours OK | Low pressure or supply fault to your villa | DEWA 991; tanker for now |
| Underground tank full, taps dry | Pump, float switch or valve | Plumber / maintenance |
| Water but very low pressure | Pump or rooftop tank issue | Plumber / maintenance |
If the tank itself is empty, order a water tanker in Dubai on WhatsApp. We run 24/7 and typically arrive in about an hour.
