Villa Water Tank Sizes in Dubai and How Often to Refill
By WaterLink Team · Published · Updated
How big is a villa water tank in Dubai?
Villa water tanks in Dubai vary widely, so measure yours: multiply length × width × height in metres and then by 264 to get US gallons. Most villas have an underground tank plus a smaller rooftop tank. A 2,500-gallon tanker refills most villa tanks; WaterLink also delivers from 200 gallons for top-ups.

Most Dubai villas store water in two places:
- An underground (ground) tank, filled from the DEWA mains. This is usually the bigger one, and it’s where a tanker delivers.
- A rooftop tank, filled by a pump from the underground tank. It feeds the taps by gravity.
Some villas have only one tank, or several; townhouses often have smaller tanks. There isn’t one standard size, so the only reliable number is your own.
How to find your tank size
1. Look for a label
Many tanks — especially factory-made fibreglass or plastic rooftop tanks — have the capacity printed on them, in gallons or litres.
2. Ask
Your landlord, developer handover documents, or maintenance company may know the capacity.
3. Measure it
For a rectangular tank, measure the inside length, width and height in metres:
Capacity (US gallons) = length × width × height × 264
Example: 2.5 m × 2 m × 1.5 m = 7.5 m³ × 264 ≈ 1,980 gallons.
For a round (cylinder) tank:
Capacity (US gallons) = 3.14 × radius × radius × height × 264
Example: 1.2 m diameter (0.6 m radius), 1.5 m high → 3.14 × 0.6 × 0.6 × 1.5 = 1.7 m³ × 264 ≈ 448 gallons.
Use the tank’s inside height up to the overflow, not the full outside height.
How much do you need to order?
Order only what fits: capacity minus what’s already in the tank. A tank that’s half full needs half its capacity. Use the tank calculator to convert litres and count loads.
| Your need | Typical order |
|---|---|
| Top up a partly empty tank | 200–1,000 gallons |
| Refill an empty villa tank | 1,000–2,500 gallons |
| Fill underground + rooftop after cleaning | Often a full 2,500-gallon load |
How often will you need a refill?
With a working mains supply, never — the float valve refills the tank on its own. You need a tanker when:
- DEWA supply is interrupted (see DEWA water shutdowns).
- Mains pressure is too low to refill the tank overnight.
- The tank has been emptied for cleaning (see tank cleaning).
- A leak or burst drained it.
- The villa has been empty and the tank was drained.
If your tank runs low regularly, there may be a pressure or float-valve problem worth fixing — or a regular scheduled supply may be simpler.
Where the tanker connects
A tanker fills the underground tank through its inlet or access cover. Tell us:
- Where the inlet is (front, side or back of the villa).
- How far it is from where a truck can park.
- Whether there are steps, gates or garden in between.
That’s how we bring the right hose and avoid delays.
