WaterLink — Water Tanker Delivery, Dubai

1,000 vs 2,500 vs 5,000 Gallons: Which Tanker Do You Need?

By WaterLink Team · Published · Updated

Which water tanker size do I need in Dubai?

Match the tanker to what you can store. 1,000 gallons (3,785 L) suits villa top-ups and small tanks; 2,500 gallons (9,464 L) refills most villa tanks and is the standard pool load; 5,000 gallons (18,927 L) suits buildings and large pools. Under 1,000 gallons, WaterLink delivers from 200 gallons for shops and car washes.

All figures use US gallons (1 gallon = 3.785 litres), which is what WaterLink uses. If a supplier quotes imperial gallons, the same number of gallons holds about 20% more water — always ask.

Rule 1: Don’t order more than you can store

The most common mistake is ordering a bigger tanker than the tank can take. Water that doesn’t fit can’t be delivered — you pay for the trip either way. Find your tank’s capacity first (see villa water tank sizes) and subtract what’s already in it.

Rule 2: Bigger isn’t always cheaper for you

A 5,000-gallon tanker costs less per gallon than a 1,000-gallon drop. But if you only have room for 1,000 gallons, the cheapest option is the 1,000-gallon order. Per-gallon price only matters when you can use all the water.

Rule 3: Access decides what’s possible

Bigger trucks need more room to enter, turn and park. In older neighbourhoods, narrow community roads and tight villa plots, a 2,500-gallon truck gets closer to your tank and needs less hose. For buildings and open sites, 5,000–10,000-gallon trucks are more efficient.

Heavy trucks also face road and time restrictions in Dubai — for example, from 1 October 2026 trucks are banned from Sheikh Zayed Road between 6 am and 10 pm. Read why tanker delivery times change.

Which size for which job?

Villa water tank

Usually 2,500 gallons for a full refill, or 1,000 gallons to top up. Measure what’s missing first.

Swimming pool

Pools are filled in 2,500-gallon loads. A typical 50 m³ villa pool needs 6 loads. See how many tankers to fill a pool. For summer top-ups, 200–500 gallons is often enough.

Apartment building

5,000–10,000 gallons, or several 2,500-gallon loads, depending on the building’s tank capacity. Ask building management for the tank size.

Construction site

Villa plots: 2,500 gallons daily or every few days. Larger sites: 5,000–10,000 gallons. Salt water for compaction usually comes in 5,000–10,000-gallon partner tankers.

Car wash or shop

200–1,000 gallons on a regular morning route. See car wash water supply.

Winter camp or event

200–1,000 gallons per fill, depending on your portable tanks. See water for winter camps.

Why most suppliers start at 1,000 gallons

Almost every Dubai tanker website we reviewed has a 1,000-gallon minimum. A small order takes the same trip as a big one, so many suppliers simply don’t bother. WaterLink’s own truck is sized for smaller drops, so we deliver from 200 gallons — you pay for the water you can actually use.

Not sure? Tell us three things

  1. What you’re filling (tank, pool, site, van).
  2. Its capacity, or its dimensions.
  3. Roughly how much is already in it.
